Energy and Environmental Planner 
Tighe & Bond - Westfield, MA
Tighe & Bond is seeking a full-time junior to mid-level Energy and Environmental Planner for a position in our Renewable Energy, Planning and Permitting Group. The primary duties of the Energy and Environmental Planner are to support medium to large size clean energy, environmental planning, and environmental permitting projects. This will include preparation, planning, and analysis/review of 
technical studies, permit applications, environmental documents, and similar reports/documents. Work will be accomplished independently and with small to large technical and professional teams from local and regional offices. The Planner will be closely involved in regulatory and public consultation. The qualified individual should have experience in and be responsible for interpreting and ensuring compliance with energy, environmental and land use laws and regulations; conducting feasibility assessments of energy and development projects; researching and successfully applying for grant funding; and developing applications for a variety of permits. Familiarity with environmental permitting and land use regulations and their application to energy and land development projects is required. Typical Functions
  • Provides support to a team of Planners, Engineers, and Project Managers
  • Assists staff in collecting and preparing data for various energy and planning projects
  • Prepares planning reports, feasibility studies, impact analyses, and permit applications of variable complexity
  • Coordinates with our GIS group to create maps and impact analysis figures
  • Assists and presents at community meetings and public hearings
  • Researches policy or regulatory issues, provides summary memorandums
  • Researches funding sources and grant opportunities
  • Conducts basic office functions as needed, such as data entry, file management, and meeting support
  • Participates in new business development efforts and draft proposals and budgets
  • Coordinates with technical team members and subconsultants
  • Coordinates field work to investigate environmental conditions
  • Coordinates with clients and other project team members

Position Requirements: 
  • Undergraduate or Masters degree in planning, environmental policy, public policy or related field. Masters Degree preferred.
  • At least two years experience working with issues related to clean energy, land use planning and/ or environmental policy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter able to work independently
  • Good team player and experience working in interdisciplinary planning teams
  • Good time management skills, primarily the ability to work on several projects at the same time
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Literacy in computer software including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Microsoft Project and GIS an asset.
  • Flexibility and desire to work on varying clean energy, planning and/or permitting projects
  • Experience with public presentations and public hearings
  • Writing samples and references will be required.
